Estheticians Urged to Take Action Against Tennessee Legislation

Have you heard the latest aesthetic news in Tennessee? The Tennessee House Health & Human Resources Committee is voting on Wednesday April 4, 2012 on HB2558. If passed, this new legislation would require that “all cosmetic or aesthetic procedures be performed by a physician or osteopathic physician (referred to collectively as a physician in this summary) or delegated by the physician to a person under the supervision of the physician.”

This legislation would inhibit the opportunities of Tennessee estheticians to continue performing “aesthetic procedures” including laser treatments. Currently, procedures are allowed to be safely performed by certified and licensed estheticians who comply with health and safety consumer protocols.

Tennessee estheticians have been urged to contact their representatives to help curb the legislation which could inhibit their treatment options and business opportunities. If interested in voicing your opinion on HB2558, the voting on April 4 will take place at the Health & Humans Resources Committee meeting in the Tennessee Legislative Plaza in Nashville.
