Many women have concluded that the only non-surgical answer to an unflattering neck & décolleté is to sport turtle-necks and scarves year-round. While covering up does have the benefit of protecting against the sun’s harmful rays, it isn’t going to change the skin you’re in. The solution? See an esthetician. Medical spas likeInstitut DERMedoffer a variety of treatments specifically designed to reverse unsightly skin damage and signs of aging. In this series, we will highlight the 5 best corrective treatments available for the neck & décolleté (and face, too).

4. Microcurrent

How does it work?

Microcurrent therapy treats the signs of aging, such as facial lines and wrinkles, as well as the effects of sun damage, smoking and weight gain by stimulating muscle memory, increasing circulation, and toning and tightening skin. Microcurrent delivers a low-level current that stimulates collagen, elastin, adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production, and facial muscles for both instant and cumulative results. The neck and jawline are common problematic areas, making facial contouring with electro-muscle stimulation the perfect non-surgical and non-invasive fix. Contraindications for microcurrent include, but are not limited to, heart problems, pacemakers, pregnancy and implanted metal rods.

What conditions does it treat?

    • Deep wrinkle softening

    • Fine line elimination

    • Lifting and toning of the jaw, neck and facial muscles

    • Reduction of puffiness and darkness around the eyes

  • Enhanced skin texture

Will it hurt?

Microcurrent therapy is painless. The current is extremely low, less than the output of a pacemaker, and is totally safe. Some clients may experience a tingling or prickling sensation but most people find it a very soothing, relaxing and enjoyable treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Clients will see the skin and facial muscles become tighter and toned with each treatment. The effect is cumulative, becoming more pronounced with each treatment. As with any form of exercise, it takes regular sessions to achieve good muscle tone. To gain the full benefit of the therapy, we recommend a program of 8-12 sessions, depending on individual needs. After that, a maintenance session every 3-4 months is recommended.
